well it has gone to gumboots and rain showers to sunny and hot- were you prepared?? Even though I melt in the sun I do love the warm weather!!
I hope everyone had a good week of training and if you didn’t well I hope you can pull up your socks and move forward! There is so much more that just swimming, biking and running when you are training for an Ironman. There is fatigue management, time management, nutrition, and the best kept secret REST!! I took part in the resting this long weekend. I had a wonderful weekend with my husband out on our boat travelling the Gulf Islands and visiting friends. We anchored one evening in a beautiful bay and in the morning I decided to go for an ocean swim. My husband came along beside me in the zodiac with our two dogs Winnie and Roo. First of all the water was freezing cold but I thought once I was in I might as well try and swim 1km. I had my husband equipped with the GPS off my phone and away we went. The other boats anchored in the bay thought I was nuts and frankly so did I. My hands got so cold I could no longer keep my fingers together which is when the fist drill comes in very handy- since you cannot feel your hands, you need to know how to pull using your forearm. I was kept entertained on my swim by having my two dogs hang off the side of the boat as I swam beside them- they were so cute I had to laugh a few times under water. My swim was great and I managed to get in 2km!! I now feel I am well prepared for Alta lake which my athletes and myself will swim in this weekend for a group training camp!! The rest of my weekend involved some short runs on Salt Spring Island and a great visit with some good friends and another run in Sidney on Vancouver island. It was good to get away and not stress about training but allow it to fit into my life, along with spending time with friends, my husband, dogs and enjoying the beautiful west coast!!
Now I am back in Whistler and ready to get back on my bike and ride some hills!
