I find it both exciting and motivating when a new year rolls around as all of the races I signed up for last year now become reality! For the athletes I am coaching I challenge and encourage them to look back at last years successes and challenges and make a plan heading into the new year of how they can improve this year. The wonderful aspect of sport is that it keeps us looking at ways to improve athletically, personally, professionally and possibly spiritually. Over the past year for myself I had some amazing highs and some awful lows. My highs are full of personal achievements and of the success of my athletes and their accomplishments, special trips with my husband and my steps sons wedding. The lows included my father in laws death, delaying the start of my Masters and the loss of my good friends son to cancer at the age of 23. What did all the highs and lows teach me? That everyday is an opportunity to live, to appreciate all the things we have, and to be kind and tolerant of others.
As I move forward in 2013 I am excited of the opportunities that lay ahead for me in all aspects of my life. On January 26 I will leave for 5 weeks to Antartica to work on a ship. My husband will join me for the first trip- 18 days from Ushuia to the Falklands, South Georgia Island and some of the smaller islands and to Antartica. This is something I would never have done but seeing how there are no guarantees on life I decided I needed to start taking the opportunity to expereince all I can while I am here. After my husband leaves I will continue on for another 13 day trip and then return home the beginning of March.
I will continue furthering my education by taking more University courses and continue teaching, lifeskills, goal setting and building the Support Network Of Whistler programs for our community.
I am excited to be coaching athletes to compete at the new Ironman Canada course in my home town of Whistler BC.!! This is going to be a highlight of my year. The bike course is going to be a challenge for everyone but I am hoping that being able to train on the home course will provide the needed mental advantage to all of my athletes!
I hope that all of you are looking forward to 2013 as an opportunity to live life to its fullest, gather experiences, challenge your self mentally, physically and spiritually and be a better person each day!
